Top things to know about the Nokia 1

Nokia made a successful comeback last year, they made the headlines with the Nokia 6 which was their mid-range smartphone. Later, the company launched a bunch of low-budget smartphones which includes the Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 2.

Now, the Nokia 2 came in last October, for the price point, the device wasn’t the best low-budget smartphone. Fast forward, at this year’s MWC, Nokia introduced the Nokia 1, Nokia 7, Nokia 6 and other smartphones.

The highlighting point of this year’s Nokia smartphones was the fact that all of them would be coming under the Android A1 project of Google. Now, here in this post, we are going to give a look at the top things to know about the Nokia 1.

HMD Global did face a lot of criticism due to launching overpriced smartphones, especially in the Chinese and Indian smartphone markets. With 2017 gone, we hope Nokia don’t repeat the same mistakes in 2018.

Top things to know about the Nokia 1

So, here are the top things to know about the Nokia 1: –

#7. Pricing

The Nokia 2 is priced around Rs. 6.7K, but it isn’t the best value for money smartphone and with rumors suggesting that Android Go smartphone will be available for less 2K rupees, the Nokia 1 is expected to be price between 4-6K.

We hope that Nokia will bring down the prices but there is chance Nokia won’t be doing so despite facing a huge competition from brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Micromax, Lava, etc. As a matter of fact, many criticized Nokia for launching overpriced smartphones.

#6. Decent camera

Well given the fact that the Nokia 1 will be a low-budget smartphone, the camera specs of this device aren’t something most will like. At the rear, you get a 5 MP camera with a LED flash, and at the front, you get a 2 MP camera.

So, when it comes to the camera, the Nokia 1 really sucks because it’s not 2015 or 2016.

#5. Hardware

HMD Global could have gotten an appreciation if they would have added Snapdragon 425 chipset, but they went with the MediaTek MT6737P chipset. The phone gets 1 GB of RAM and 8 Gigs of internal memory.

Given the hardware, many will not even be considering buying the phone, but here’s the key difference, the device runs on Android Go which is an optimized version of the full-fledged Android OS. Hence, it uses fewer resources.

For instance, you can check out the Go apps which have been launched by Google, it takes far less memory and uses a small segment of RAM compared to the full-fledged apps.

#4. Battery

At the back of the device, you get a 2150 mAh battery, but don’t worry it will easily be able to last one full day even with heavy usage as it runs on the Android Go variant which occupies minimal resources for running processes and applications.

#3. Gaming

If there is one segment, where the Nokia 1 definitely fails then that has to be Gaming segment. The device comes with Mali-T720 GPU which isn’t meant for gaming, so forget playing heavy games on this device.

#2. Decent display

HMD Global has kind of cut down a lot of things in the Nokia 1 smartphone, which also included the display. The Nokia 2 had a 5.0-inch display with an HD resolution, but its new siblings have a smaller 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 480p SD, which is really disappointing. It’s kind of feels like that HMD Global is following the footsteps of Samsung.

#1. Android Go (with Android One)

The main highlight of the Nokia 1 is that the device runs on Android Go edition which basically means it takes much less space and resources to run.

The device will come with Go version of Android apps which includes YouTube Go, Maps Go, Files Go, Facebook Lite, etc.

These apps occupy far less memory and use minimal hardware compared to their full version apps like YouTube, Facebook, etc. Nokia did put the cherry on top by announcing that their smartphones are now going to be part of Google’s Android One project. Hence, you can expect monthly patches and updates on the Nokia 1.
