HMD Global launches Nokia 2.1,3.1 & 5.1 with Android One

It was last year in January when HMD Global finally launched the much-awaited Nokia 6, and soon after that HMD Global finally came out with more budget oriented smartphones like the Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5.

All of these smartphone got a mixed response due to their pricing and hardware specification, fast forward, a couple of days ago, HMD Global introduced the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 with Android One, the smartphones were launched in an event in Moscow, Russia.

This year, HMD Global has already launched smartphones like Nokia One, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 and the recently launched Nokia X6.

Launching the Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1 with Android One is indeed a game changer because any Android smartphones that come with Android One support, it provides an assurance for monthly security updates and major OS updates, which is something you get to see in the only Pixel, and other flagship smartphones.

These successors come with improved hardware and design over its predecessors; Nokia 2,3 and 5. Now, let’s have a look at the key specification and pricing of the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 & Nokia 5.1.

Nokia 2.1 key specification and pricing:

Display: The Nokia 2.1 sports a 5.5-inch HD display, whereas the Nokia 2  (2017) came with a 5.0-inch.

CPU & GPU: The Nokia 2.1 features a Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor which isn’t the latest SOC. Along with the Snapdragon 425, you also get the Adreno 308 GPU.

RAM & ROM: As far as RAM and ROM are concerned, the Nokia 2.1 comes with 1 Gigs of RAM and 8 Gigs of internal memory.

Camera: At the rear of the Nokia 2.1, you get an 8 MP sensor along with an LED flash and at the front, you get a 5 MP shooter for taking selfies.

OS: Out of the box, the Nokia 2.1 runs on Android Oreo (Android Go) edition just like the previously launched Nokia 1, and with Android One support, the device will be receiving regular updates.

Battery: One of the Pros of the Nokia 2.1 is the battery the device is getting powered by a 4000 mAh battery, so you’ll be able to get 2-3 days of backup.

Pricing: The Nokia 2.1 is expected to be priced between Rs. 6000 – 8000.

Nokia 3.1 key specification and pricing:

Display: The Nokia 3.1 sports a 5.2-inch HD+ display, whereas its predecessor came with an HD display.

CPU & GPU: The Nokia 3.1 features a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor along with Mali-T860 MP2 GPU.

RAM & ROM: The Nokia 3.1 will be available in two variants, the lower variant comes with 2 Gigs of RAM and 16 Gigs of ROM, while the higher variant comes with 3 Gigs of RAM and 32 Gigs of ROM.

Camera: At the rear of the Nokia 3.1, you get a 13 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture along with an LED flash and at the front, you get an 8 MP shooter for taking selfies.

OS: The Nokia 3.1 runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo) and will be receiving regular security patches and updates courtesy of the Android One program.

Battery: At the back of the device, the Nokia 3.1 houses a 2990 mAh battery.

Pricing: The Nokia 3.1 is expected to be priced between Rs. 8000 – 10000.

Nokia 5.1 key specification and pricing:

Display: The Nokia 5.1 sports a 5.5-inch full HD+ display having a resolution of (1080 x 2160p), whereas its predecessor came with an HD display.

CPU & GPU: Under the hood, the Nokia 5.1 packs a MediaTek MT6755S octa-core processor accompanied by a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU.

RAM & ROM: Like the Nokia 3.1, the Nokia 5.1 will be available in two variants, the lower variant will have 2 Gigs of RAM and 16 Gigs of ROM, while the higher variant comes with 3 Gigs of RAM and 32 Gigs of ROM, which is a big con considering the pricing of the device.

Camera: At the rear of the Nokia 3.1, you get a 16 MP sensor with PDAF & f/2.0 aperture along with an LED flash, and at the front, you get an 8 MP shooter for taking selfies.

OS: Just like the Nokia 3.1, the Nokia 5.1 runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo) and will be receiving regular security patches and updates courtesy of the Android One program.

Battery: At the back of the device, the Nokia 5.1 houses a 3000 mAh battery, which isn’t a big deal breaker.

Pricing: The Nokia 5.1 is expected to be priced between Rs. 11000 – 13000.

Overall, the new Nokia 2.1, 3.1 & 5.1 looks interesting but given the present competition, it will be very hard for HMD Global to sell their devices until they pricing the devices aggressively.
